Fantastic and well researched book on the history of one of the most influential english band of the seventies. Jim Christopulos ( from Howard & the White Boys a favourite of Il Popolo del Blues since 1998 ) and Phil Smart did a great job on “The Book” telling a complex story as the one of the great Van Der Graaf Generator.
Jim & Phil kept an eye on objectivity without losing the perspective nor the sense of discovering which came natural listening to Van Der Graaf Generator for the first time then and now.
First chapters, the ones dedicated on how the band got together, are essential and – for italian fans only but not only for them – the recollection of the three legendary italian tour of 1972 are fun to read.
What comes clear is a band which cannot be stereotyped, now less than ever. The mid seventies and the solo albums connections take life along the pages and the result is simply terrific. Unmissable!
